How to Find your Ideal Internship

Internships offer college students amazing career and learning opportunities. No matter if your internship is paid or sometimes feels like slave labor, the experiences you will learn and the effect on your resume will be great.

However, if you’re a journalism major getting an internship as an accountant it might not give us as big a leg up in your career as you think. How do you find your ideal internship? Know your internship goals, and answer the following questions.

  • What are your specific career interests?
  • Why do you want an internship and what do you hope to gain from it?
  • What types of organization are you interested in – size, ownership, culture, etc.?
  • What industry best fits your needs?
  • What city would you like your internship to be in?
  • Will you consider both paid and unpaid internships?
  • Are you looking for college credit for the internship?
