Forbes.com recently released its list of the most overpriced cities in America. Using information from city profiles of the 50 largest metropolitan areas in America, the online magazine rated these cities by: average salary for workers with a bachelor degree or higher, annual unemployment statistics, cost of living and the Housing Opportunity Index (measures the number of homes sold in a given area).
You may, or may not, be surprised at the expensive cities that top the list:
19. Boston, Massachusetts AND Warren, Michigan
18. San Francisco, California
17. Jacksonville, Florida
16. St. Louis, Missouri
15. Orlando, Florida
13. Memphis, Tennessee (see our Memphis City Profile) AND Tampa, Florida
12. Portland, Oregon (see our Portland City Profile)
11. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
10. San Diego, California
9. Newark, New Jersey
8. Cleveland, Ohio
7. Long Island, New York
6. Riverside, California
5. Providence, Rhode Island
4. New York, New York
3. Miami, Florida
2. Chicago, Illinois (see our Chicago City Profile)
1. Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles is also one of five of America’s 50 largest metro areas with double digit unemployment. Does that make you want to reconsider your job relocation? Maybe it should.
